A Reflection on Psalm 63

David was known as a man after God’s own heart. I want to be like that! By seeing David’s words here, it is so evident of his love for God. For example, in verse 1 he says, “My soul thirsts for You; My flesh longs for You in a dry and thirsty land where there is no water.” Later in verse 6 he says, “When I remember You on my bed, I meditate on You in the night watches.”

He never stops yearning for God, day or night. Do you ever feel like you forget about God? I hate to say it but sometimes I can be so focused on my desires and goals and plans, all things that God still wants me to seek and accomplish, but I get “too busy” that I forget to pray, seek God for help, and even thank Him for all He’s given me!

David says in verse 3, “Because Your loving kindness is better than life, my lips will praise you.” I want to be humbled and reminded that no matter what I have going on in my life, good or bad, nothing is as important as remembering and living in the truth that God’s love for us is so amazing, and we don’t deserve all that He has done for us.

If you look at all the verbs David uses in this Psalm, words like “thirst”, “long”, “mediate”, and “praise”, it shows the intentionality and seriousness of desiring the Lord and following His will. I love this Psalm because it shows David’s heart for the Lord, and every time I read it, it inspires and convicts me to be more like David. As you go throughout your day, I hope this inspires you to find a moment where you can pause and reflect on how this Psalm can inspire you to be more like David as well.
